12.06.2017

12.06.2017
The Cabinet of Ministers has tabled a draft bill which acknowledges the long-denied existence of SBU [Security Service] detention facilities and proposes amendments to legislation in order to formally allow them. Legal may be preferable to illegal, however removing the possibility of abuse by the Security Service would be better still

Donbas militants copy Russian FSB ‘confession’ methods & implausible story line
29.05.2017
Kremlin-backed militants from the so-called ‘Luhansk people’s republic’ [LPR] are again claiming to have captured ‘Ukrainian saboteurs’. Like the Russian FSB’s tactics in occupied Crimea, the entire story is based solely on the supposed ‘confessions’ of men totally under militant control.

One Year of Not Knowing: Where is abducted Crimean Tatar Activist Ervin Ibragimov?
24.05.2017
On May 24 exactly one year will have passed since Crimean Tatar activist Ervin Ibragimov was abducted close to his home in Bakhchysarai. Despite video footage of the abduction and international demands, the de facto authorities under Russian occupation have done nothing to find the young man or those who seized him.
Instilling Terror: More Armed Searches & Abduction-like Arrests in Russian-occupied Crimea
09.05.2017
The key element in any attempts to terrorize the population is uncertainty: it should be unclear who will be the next victim – it could be you or your family. On May 8, armed Russian officers came for the son of a well-known regional Mejlis leader and another Crimean Tatar, Server Yusuf, who appears to have been taken to Russia after what looks much more like an abduction than an ‘arrest’.

After holding well-known academic Ihor Kozlovskyy prisoner for well over a year, the Kremlin-backed militants of the so-called Donetsk people’s republic [DPR] have now ‘sentenced’ him to nearly 3 years’ imprisonment. The 63-year-old religious scholar was ‘convicted’ by a DPR military court of possession of two grenades which were purportedly ‘found’ in his flat
Russian FSB resorts to flagrant falsification to jail Ukrainian activist in Crimea
21.04.2017
Well-known Russian lawyer Dmitry Dinze has warned a Crimean court that even under Russian legislation it faces criminal liability for imprisoning people on the basis of overtly rigged evidence.
