Babi Yar recognized as national historical memorial land

On 24 February 2010 “in consideration of the significance of the State historical memorial reserve “Babi Yar” in immortalizing the memory of the victims of the Nazi persecution and in order to promote the further development of the reserve”, President Yushchenko signed a decree giving Babi Yar national reserve status.

Given the monstrous suggestion last year that a hotel might be built on the site (cf. ), the move is to be welcomed, and long overdue.
