Doctors: Lutsenko’s state one of medium severity

12.05.2011
Despite a clear deterioration in the state of health of the former Minister of Internal Affairs who has been on hunger strike since 22 April, the investigator did not permit Iryna Lutsenko to visit her husband on Wednesday

The doctors in the Ambulance Clinic where former Minister of Internal Affairs, Yury Lutsenko was taken on Tuesday evening said that Lutsenko had been brought in a grave condition, but that his state could be rated as of medium severity. Despite this the investigator is only allowing Iryna Lutsenko to visit her husband on Thursday. Iryna Lutsenko considers the Prosecutor General’s Office responsible for the worsening of her husband’s state.

Nina Karpachova, the Human Rights Ombudsperson, visited Yury Lutsenko in the Clinic on Wednesday and told reporters that the former Minister said that he has started feeling much worse.

On Wednesday, the Verkhovna Rada refused to hear information from the Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka and Human Rights Ombudsperson regarding the situation over the arrest and continued remand in custody of Yury Lutsenko.

The opposition walked out in protest.

Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn’s Press Secretary stated that the deputies would hold consultations regarding this issue, this apparently scheduled for Thursday.
