The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Jan Tombiński has reiterated that there can be no progress in EU-Ukraine relations until the issue of selective justice is resolved

The EU Ambassador to Ukraine, Jan Tombiński has confirmed that the issue of selective justice will be raised during the EU-Ukraine Summit in Brussels on 25 February.

Ambassador Tombiński stressed that the summit was a regular part of EU dialogue with other countries, and not aimed specifically at discussing the issues linked with the imprisoned former Prime Minister and selective justice in general.  “However the issue will be discussed at the summit since there can be no movement forward in EU-Ukraine relations until the problem of selective justice is resolved”.

He pointed out that the issue had been spoken about on numerous occasions by representatives of various EU institutions who had indicated that resolving issues linked with selective justice was one of the prerequisites for further development of Ukraine’s relations with the EU.  

He expressed the hope that the European Parliament Observation Mission with former EP President Pat Cox and former Polish President Aleksander Kwaśniewski would assit Ukraine in resolving the issue.  “The key message of the upcoming EU-Ukraine Summit is that European instruments should be used to fulfill the country’s potential, "
