Tymoshenko decision again deferred

Opposition MPs are blunt in stating that the delay is because Viktor Yanukovych has still not decided whether to release his main rival or not. Judging by the articles in the world media, this view is very widely shared

The Verkhovna Rada has yet again postponed considering legislation which would enable opposition leader and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko to leave for medical treatment in Germany.  Opposition MPs are blunt in stating that the delay is because Viktor Yanukovych has still not decided whether to release his main rival or not.  Judging by the articles in the world media, this view is very widely shared.

The morning session in the Verkhovna Rada was adjourned after failure to agree on the agenda.  Speaker Rybak stated that agreement had been reached to consider draft laws needed for the signing of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement on Nov. 21.  The draft laws in question are, first and foremost, a law enabling Tymoshenko’s treatment, but also the laws on the public prosecutor and on amendments to electoral legislation.

The head of the ruling Party of the Regions faction in parliament, Oleksandr Yefremov said that there was a 50-50 likelihood that the draft laws would be passed.
