The Ukrainian Bar Association [UBA] has initiated a legal aid centre for participants in peaceful protests aimed at ensuring that victims of unlawful action by the police are given swift and professional help.

UBA says that their initiative has been supported by leading lawyers and advocates, providing free aid as required.

The head of the centre, Andriy Stelmashchuk calls on his colleagues to unite and help people who suffered during peaceful protests to defend their rights. “We need one another”.

The Ukrainian Bar Association is made up of around 4 thousand bar lawyers (advocates) around the country.

UBA issued a statement on Nov 30 condemning the brutal and unwarranted use of force by Berkut riot police against peaceful protesters early on Saturday morning.
