Crimean Tatars come to Kherson oblast to vote

A large number of Crimean Tatars of different ages set off on Sunday in around 20 cars to vote in Ukraine’s presidential elections.  They cast their vote in Novoalekseyevka in the Kherson oblast.

Among them was Niara Abdullaeva.  She told Radio Svoboda’s Crimean programme that other Crimean Tatars would have also liked to vote, but either could not afford it or were fearful of repressive measures at home.   The fears are not unwarranted, unfortunately, with other media reporting that the Crimean Tatars did encounter some difficulties and were photographed.

The Crimean Tatars were greeted in Novoalekseyevka by representatives of the local authorities and the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People.
