The Prosecutor General of Ukraine has submitted to the courts another case involving vote rigging in Mukachevo

04.08.2006

The Prosecutor General’s office has concluded its investigation and submitted to the Mukachevo City District Court a case involving criminal charges against one of the former heads of the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Transcarpathian region. The person is accused of committing crimes under Article 357 § 2 (theft of particularly important documents) and Article 364 § 3 (abuse of ones official position by an employee of a law enforcement agency) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The Prosecutor General’s Press Service stated that the pre-trial investigation had proven that the given official was implicated in the theft of protocols from district electoral commissions on the outcome and abuses linked to the rigging of the results of the elections to the Mukachevo City Council in April 2004.

Criminal charges have already been referred to the Mukachevo City District Court in the case involving the former head of the district electoral commission No. 32 during the elections of the City Mayor Mykhailo Solyanyk. He is charged with having, on prior arrangement with the former first deputy Head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Viktor Dyadchenko, added to a protocol of the district electoral commission information which he knew to be false and having used a false voting document. The Mukachevo City District Court sentenced M. Solyanyk to 5 years deprivation of liberty.
