“Memorial” has done a huge amount to reveal the truth about the crimes of communism in the USSR and to have the millions of victims of the Bolshevik Terror rehabilitated.

The Polish Gazeta Wyborcza reports that among the candidates this year for the Nobel Peace Prize is the Human Rights Society “Memorial”. This organization has done a huge amount for revealing the truth about the crimes of communism in the USSR and for having the millions of victims of the Bolshevik Terror rehabilitated.

“Memorial” also helps people in regions engulfed by local conflict on the territory of the former USSR.

The Society, whose main office is in Moscow, is at present, among other activities, seeking the recognition of the Polish officers and others murdered by the NKVD (particularly at Katyń) victims of political repression and demanding that the authorities officially rehabilitate them.

“Memorial” was nominated by a group of Members of the European Parliament: Christopher Beazeley (UK); Gunnar Hokmark (Sweden); Tunne Valdo Kelam (Estonia); Bogdan Klich (Poland); Rihards Piks (Lithuania) and Ari Vatanen (a Finn, representing France).

The Nobel Peace Laureate will be announced in October.
