Head of the National Union of Journalists Ihor Lubchenko reports several attempts to stifle freedom of speech in the Dnipropetrovsk region. He mentions the “flagrant attitude by the leaders of the Apostolivsky District to the newspaper “Apostolivski news”, the scandalous appointment of Viktoria Shypova as head of the regional state television and radio company and the most recent event – the dismissal from his post as Chief Editor of the regional newspaper “Zorya” Vadim Klymentyev.

According to Ihor Lubchenko,  the dismissal of Vadim Klymentyev is an attempt to turn the regional newspaper into a newspaper of only one party.

He also reported that he had just sent a letter to the Head of the Regional Council Yury Vipkula asking that he explain why the Editor of “Zorya” had been dismissed. He has also sent letters to the President and Prime Minister asking them to give an assessment of what is going on in the Dnipropetrovsk region and to bring those responsible to answer.
