The FSB can find State secrets – no problem
According to the Russian FSB Public Liaison Centre, a court expert assessment has found that the two Novosibirsk brothers Oleg and Igor Minin, both physicists did divulge State secrets in their book.
“As part of the investigation into the case, the conclusion was reached that a part of the information published in the book constitutes a State secret”, the document reads.
The FSB states that charges have not been laid as yet under Article 263 of the Criminal Code (divulging State secrets), nor have preventive measures (remanding in custody, bail, etc) been decided.
As already reported here, there is a certain twist to what is otherwise a depressingly familiar scenario in Putins Russia. Tthe brothers are accused of having divulged these “secrets” in a book they wrote for the Novosibirsk State Technical University. The latters relevant department had approved publication of the book, finding nothing which couldnt be disclosed.
The FSB would seem to have been more vigilant …
As mentioned, human rights defenders who have labelled the accusations absurd, suggest that the FSB are aggrieved over having been forced by the court to apologize to another scientist they maligned.
