33-hour fast in memory of the victims of Holodomor in Ternopil

This is the fourth year that the Ukrainian Youth Union [SUM] is holding such remembrance fasts.  SUM Representative Yury Zarutsky explains:

“Each person who takes part makes the commitment to not eat anything from 7 a.m. on 23 November to 16.00 on 24 November.  This is a kind of personal offering each of us makes to honour the memory of those who died of starvation in 1932-1933.

Only those over 18 and without any medical reasons against it may take part.

The action “Empathy” in memory of the victims of Holodomor was first run in 2003 by SUM members in Australia and members of the Ternopil branch of the Union.

Last year the fast was joined not only by Ukrainians, but also people from Georgia, the United Kingdom and Slovakia.
