The Gongadze Case: Yet another investigative experiment

28.11.2007
The Prosecutor General does not explain what the first such experiment made almost six months ago failed to uncover

The Prosecutor General’s office are hoping to carry out a second investigative  experiment in the President’s Secretariat with regard to the criminal investigation into the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze. The Prosecutor General spoke of this on Tuesday at a press conference in Kyiv.  He said that they had asked the Secretariat to enable them to carry out yet another investigative experiment in the office of the former President Leonid Kuchma.

When asked whether Melnychenko (who has the tapes in question) would be present, Oleksandr Medvedko said that Mr Melnychenko had last been at the Prosecutor General’s office for questioning on 14 November, but that he thought that if it was required, Melnychenko would come.

The first such experiment was carried out on 22 June this year in the office previously occupied by Leonid Kuchma.  The interior of that time was recreated for the purpose of the experiment.

Ex-Major Melnychenko, former Presidential bodyguard, was present during that experiment.
