The final stage of the International Remembrance Flame campaign has begun in Ukraine. The remembrance events began in the village of Ivankiv in the Kyiv region with a prayer service  and the lighting of a symbolic candle from the International Remembrance Flame which has been passed from country to country. The Flame has now been to 32 countries, and was brought to Ukraine by a delegation led by Ukraine’s Ambassador in Georgia, Mykola Spys.

In Georgia, the international action began in Tbilisi, with the Remembrance Flame being taken from there to other Georgian cities where services, exhibitions, conferences, and remembrance events were held,. According to the Ambassador, “the initiators and organizers of the Remembrance Flame action have been achieving their aim with the action becoming a vital milestone for raising awareness in the international community of this terrible crime”.

He said that awareness of the crime of Holodomor will make it possible to prevent any such attempts in future against the most fundamental human values – life, the law and freedom.

The International Remembrance Flame campaign is part of the larger action “Ukraine remembers – the world acknowledges” organized by the Ukrainian World Congress, with the support of Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the President’s Secretariat and the Ukrainian World Coordination Council.

During the next month, the Remembrance Flame will visit 25 regions of Ukraine.
The event will end on 22 November in Kyiv with the opening of the Memorial to the Victims of Holodomor 1932-1933.
