Remembrance Stone to mark the Holocaust of the Roma

A symbolic stone was laid yesterday at Babi Yar in Kyiv to mark International Remembrance Day of the Roma Victims of the Pharraimos (Holocaust).

A symbolic stone was laid yesterday at Babi Yar in Kyiv to mark International Remembrance Day of the Roma Victims of the Pharraimos (Holocaust).

Over several hours on 2 August 1944 the Nazis murdered thousands of Roma people at Auschwitz-Birkenau. The inhabitants of four camps during the same night were murdered at Babi Yar.

The highest number of Roma victims in Ukraine were in Kyiv, the Crimea and in the Transcarpathian region.

The Roma have promised to provide the money themselves and build a memorial composition.

International Remembrance Day of the Roma Victims of the Pharraimos (Holocaust).has been commemorated in Ukraine since 2004.
