While Ukrainian legislation guarantees people with sight impairments the right to participate in the electoral process, the right of people with disabilities to access to information regarding electoral law is often not implemented

In the Transcarpathian region a project on electoral law for people with sight impairments is being carried out by the Ivano-Frankivsk King Yury Charitable Foundation. The project, which is supported by the US Embassy in Ukraine’s Democracy Fund, is aimed at informing people unable to see about Ukraine’s electoral law, voters’ rights etc. As part of the project, a book has been published in Braille with the basic provisions of Ukraine’s electoral legislation.

The Foundation points out that while Ukrainian legislation guarantees people with sight impairments the right to participate in the electoral process, the right of people with disabilities to access to information regarding electoral law is often not implemented.  It hopes that their project will fill this gap. The book is circulated free of charge by offices of the Ukrainian Society for the Blind.
