At a recent press conference, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe [PACE] Co-Rapporteur on Ukraine Mailis Reps stated that PACE is convinced that the draft law on judicial reform needs to be reconsidered by the Venice Commission.

“The bill on judicial reform is very important and to a large extent changes the system which has emerged in Ukraine. Since we have heard things that cannot fail to worry us regarding this bill from the various organizations with which we met, we believe that in its final version the draft law should be assessed by the Venice Commission.”

She also expressed the hope that any new draft law would, before being passed, undergo detailed discussion with the participation of the opposition, and that they would be submitted for consideration to the Venice Commission.
