European Parliament to send observers to local elections in Ukraine?
President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek believes that the European Parliament will decide on Thursday to send a monitoring mission to the local elections in Ukraine. Mr Buzek was speaking at a joint press conference with Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov following their bilateral meeting in Brussels on Wednesday.
He indicated that the mission was unusual, since representatives of the European Parliament never go to local elections.
Mr Buzek said that they had been requested to send the mission by Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Volodymyr Lytvyn.
