Ukraine will after all be presented at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony on Friday

As reported, Ukraine was mentioned earlier this week by the Nobel Committee as one of 19 countries which had declined to attend the ceremony which is to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson has stated that Ukraine will be represented at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony on 10 December by the First Secretary of the Ukrainian Embassy in Norway, Iryna Bilorus.  He stated that the Ambassador himself is in Ukraine for a meeting and will not therefore be present, but that he had agreed with the Nobel Committee that Iryna Bilorus would attend.

As reported, Ukraine was mentioned earlier this week by the Nobel Committee as one of 19 countries which had declined to attend the ceremony which is to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo.  It is widely assumed that the other 18 countries are “siding” with China which has been angry over the award since it was announced.  As well as numerous articles expressing disgust with Ukraine being among them in the media, a statement of protest was initiated and opened for endorsement by the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union and the Institute for Mass Information.  It can be read at http://helsinki.org.ua/en/index.php?id=1291809113
