President dismisses Head of National Remembrance Institute

Less than eight months since he himself made the appointment, President Yanukovych has dismissed Valery Soldatenko from his post as Head of the Institute for National Remembrance.  The relevant Decree is posted on the President’s website, along with Decrees also dismissing the Deputy Heads Oleh Omelchenko and Dmytro Vedeneyevtwo. 

There is no decree appointing anybody to replace them.

On 10 December last year President Yanukovych ordered that the Institute become a research institution under the Cabinet of Ministers. 

Valery Soldatenko was appointed in July last year after Yanukovych dismissed the Previous Head Ihor Yukhnovsky.  Soldatenko is a historian who from 1976 until 1991 worked in or headed faculties on the history of the CPSU [Communist Party of the Soviet Union
