The Institute for Mass Information [IMI]; the Mediafront Trade Union; the civic movement Stop Censorship; the Media Law Institute; Telekritika; the Svidomo Bureau for Journalist Investigations and Internews Ukraine have signed a Memorandum on the Creation of a Ukrainian Media Association.

IMI Director, Victoria Syumar, explains that “the aim of the Association is to unite the efforts of media organizations in ensuring the conditions for the development of high-quality and responsible journalism in Ukraine. The Association should become a united body which will uphold those entirely specific values. It is important to unite those people and those organizations that uphold them, and draw up specific mechanisms of self-regulation in the journalist milieu”.

A working group has also been formed made up of Ukraine’s leading journalists and representatives of the organizations. They will prepare the articles of association, regulations and development strategy of the Association.

The Association calls on all journalist organizations in Ukraine that share their aims to endorse the Memorandum and work together for the development of journalism in Ukraine.

The Association is neither financed nor supported by any political party or politician, and neither finances nor supports any political forces or politicians.
