Some of the former Chornobyl clean-up workers in Donetsk who have been on hunger strike in protest at the cutting of their pensions have decided to suspend their protest  in return for two months pension

. The Internet publication OstroV was informed of this by a spokesperson from their initiative group Oleksandr Puchkov. “We will be writing a statement that we have decided to suspend the protest. .. Let them pay us for November and December”.

The offer made by the Authorities does not seem to have been agreed to by all the protesters, and has lead to a rift among the members. The person in charge of the tent camp, for example, Volodymyr Derkach told OstroV that the decision had been taken without him. He had previously informed that members of the initiative group had agreed to negotiations with the Donetsk Regional Governor Andrei Shyshatsky. “He promised compensation. Not to all, but according to a list.  That’s fine for those on hunger strike but what about those who come here every day from other cities? I left, I don’t want to take part in that mess”, Mr Derkach said.
