Interior Minister wants to “regulate” access to the Internet

The Interior Minister Valery Zakharchenko has proposed a legislative initiative to the Cabinet of Ministers which would “regulate the possibility of access to information on the Internet”.  He spoke to journalists about his plans on Wednesday following the meeting.

“In my view and in general, there is a lot of varied information on the Internet which a part of the population, for example, teenagers, should not have the possibility of access to at all. These relations (on the Internet – Ed) are not clearly regulated to the end through legislation”.

Commenting on Information that the Dnipropetrovsk bombers had used instructions from the Internet, Zakharchenko stated that there was a lot of information on the Internet which the population should not have access to at all.

He said that he had already put forward an initiative to regulate through legislation such “relations” on the Internet.  “I can as Interior Minister put forward an initiative to the Cabinet of Ministers so that the relevant decision will be adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers. We are taking such steps at present.”

As reported, the Central Department for Fighting Organized Crime within the Ministry is actively using social networks.
