Seven activists protesting sentences over anti-Yanukovych images are charged with petty hooliganism, and some with resisting police officers

Seven protesters detained outside the President’s Administration are charged with petty hooliganism, and according to an Ukrainsky Tyzhden correspondent could face up to 15 days imprisonment.

According to one of the detainees, Andriy Rybalko from Sumy the police allege that they were pestering members of the public. He says that some of the detainees are face charges under Article 185 of the Criminal Code – resisting police officers.

The activists are asking journalists and other members of the public present to testify if necessary as witnesses.

Ukrainsky Tyzhden reports that on Thursday activists held a protest outside the President’s Administration in support of activists convicted or detained for graffiti and images of a face similar to Yanukovych’s with something that looks like a gunshot on the forehead. It says that they were beaten and detained by Berkut riot police.

As reported, a Sumy court on 14 January sentenced Ihor Hannenko to 20 months imprisonment and Volodymyr Nykonenko t to one year restriction of liberty over the image of Yanukovych.
