Prosecutor’s new stunt in Tymoshenko case No. 3
The reinstatement came after Serhiy Vlasenko, Tymoshenko’s defender (and until a highly controversial ruling this year, an opposition MP) gave a press conference where he asserted that termination of the investigation showed that the prosecution’s case had collapsed.
During the day, suggestions were made by some analysts (for example, on Radio Svoboda) that the actions were part of a process of bargaining with the EU. Those currently in positions of power have over the last three years shown staggering lapses in understanding, however it is hard to believe they could see some a comedy as seriously likely to satisfy the EU
As reported, in January Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Viktor Pshonka accused Tymoshenko of ordering the killing 16 years ago of Eugene Shcherban.
Pshonka claimed that he had evidence able to convict Tymoshenko of paying 2.8 million USD to get Shcherban murdered.
More details at “Let’s see if this one sticks?” and Selective Evidence The case is not only 16 years late in being initiated, but seriously lacking in anything but brash and unsubstantiated claims. Thus far witnesses have been of questionable value, credibility and profession (see: http://khpg.org/1361156910 ) or have effectively given testimony which in no way backs the prosecution’s case.
