Euromaidan in Kharkiv
Several thousand people gathered in Kharkiv near the monument to Taras Shevchenko on Sunday, Nov 24 to demand that Ukraine continue moving towards signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. A petition calling on Viktor Yanukovych to sign the Agreement at Vilnius has so far gathered 2 thousand signatures.
In fact, of course, considerably more is required since at least one important draft law – on the public prosecutor has not been adopted in full, and opposition leader and former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko remains imprisoned.
The rally began with Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, the EU’s anthem, and then over the next two hours all those who wished to speak addressed the crowd. The initiative group I Choose the EU! has announced that the Kharkiv Euromaidan will be gathering at 18.00 every evening on Freedom Square opposite the Regional Administration building.
