The funerals took place on Sunday of 21-year-old Serhiy Nihoyan and 25-year-old Mikhail Zhyzneuski , both of whom were shot and killed on Hrushevsky St in Kyiv on January 22.

The funeral of Serhiy Nihoyan in the village of Bereznuvativka in the Dnipropetrovsk oblast was attended by over a thousand people.

Radio Svoboda reports that Serhiy’s parents are devastated by the loss of their only son.  His mother was not in a state to speak with journalists.  His father told them: “Maidan must hold out. My son died for Ukraine”.

Serhiy’s parents sought refuge in Ukraine from the violence over Nagorno-Karabakh shortly before their son was born.  The funeral was organized by the Armenian Diaspora.

Serhiy Nihoyan had served as one of the voluntary defenders of Maidan since December. He died on Wednesday morning of bullet wounds which the police claim were not inflicted by their snaipers.

In Kyiv thousands of EuroMaidan activists and other Kyiv residents came to bid farewell to Mikhail Zhyzneuski [in Ukrainian/Russian Zhyznievsky] who was also shot dead on Wednesday.  Mikhail had come to Ukraine around 10 years ago from his native Belarus seeking refuge from persecution.  In Ukraine he was active in the nationalist UNA-UNSO movement
