Journalists got the proposition to abandon pseudonyms.

Mykola Tomenko, the Head of the Supreme Rada Committee in charge of the freedom of speech and information, declared that MPs proposed to journalists to sign their articles with their own names, if the cases against the editions criticizing President Kuchma would be started again.

He told this at the press conference „Guaranteeing the freedom of speech under the conditions of the current political situation in Ukraine“.

Tomenko believes that this measure will change the situation, when „every article criticizing the President can entail the visit from prosecutor’s office and institution of criminal case“. He reckons that MPs must put an end to such actions of prosecutor’s offices, because else this will turn into „the beating of journalists for every critical word“.
