No sign of abducted Chechen journalist

Human rights organizations appeal for help in finding Elina Ersenova , abducted on 17 August after informing a human rights organization of threats against her by Kadyrov’s security service

24 August 2006  The international organization “Reporters without Frontiers” have expressed concern about the fate of the Chechen journalist Elina Ersenova who was abducted by gunmen in Grozny on 17 August.

Ersenova published material on social issues for the independent weekly newspaper “Chechen society”.

Two days before her abduction she notified a human rights organization (the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights) that she and her family were being harassed by people from the security service of Chechen Prime Minister Ramzan Kadyrov, the Head of the Human Rights Centre “Demos” Tatyana Lokshina told “Interfax”.

The Committee to Protect Journalists, based in New York, has also expressed concern over Elina Ersenova’s abduction.
