"Reporters without Frontiers" have labelled as "absurd, unjust and shameful" the sentences of 6 and 7 years passed on journalist Ogulsapar Muradova and two human rights activists

The international human rights organization “Reporters without Frontiers” are appalled by the “absurd, unjust and shameful” sentence passed on Radio Svoboda’s correspondent in Turkmenistan, Ogulsapar Muradova.

On Friday 25 August she was sentenced by a court in Ashkhabad to six years imprisonment on a charge of illegal possession of weapons.

Human rights activists Annakurban Amanklychev and Salardurdy Khadzhiev were sentenced to seven years deprivation of liberty on an analogous charge.

All three were arrested in June. They were not allowed to see lawyers.

The trial took place behind closed doors. According to human rights activists, the hearing only lasted a few minutes.
