Several dozen students got on skis which they attached to their shoes with scotch and attempted a race over asphalt. The race was used to symbolize the policy of the Belarusian President and to express protest that Ukraines President Yushchenko is holding dialogue with Aleksandr Lukashenko.
The participants ran the 50 metres on skis along the central street of the capital. Not all succeeded with most having the skis attached by scotch fall off. Anyone who wanted to could take part to express their attitude to the regime in neighbouring Belarus.
“As we know, in all skiing races for the Aleksandr Lukashenko Prize, it is Aleksandr Lukashenko himself who wins. With this action we wish to express our protest at the wish of Viktor Yushchenko to engage in dialogue with the Belarusian dictator”, the organizers of the action stated.
The protest action was one of the events of the festival “Belarusian Spring”,
