Journalists in Russia appeal to the leaders of the country to ensure that the law is observed with regard to media workers

The group of journalists state in their appeal that there is an ever-rising number of illegal detentions and beatings of journalists by the police.

They draw attention to the circumstances over the recent  “Marches of those in dissent” [“Marshy nyesoglasnykh”].  These marches took place in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod were prohibited by the authorities and dispersed by the police, sometimes with the use of excessive force.

The appeal has been signed by 32 journalists from Russian and foreign media outlets.
