Kyivs Mayor prohibits campaigning tents
Leonid Chernovetsky , Mayor of Kyiv, has prohibited the erection of any campaigning tents in the city regardless of which political faction they are supporting. In his words: “I will not allow Kyiv to be turned into a battleground for political opponents”. He said that such tents created disorder on the citys streets, as did the rubbish left behind by people attending political rallies.
Mr Chernovetsky said that the ban was binding on all political factions without exception.
The Party of the Regions Kyiv headquarters has come out strongly against the ban, while the bloc “Our Ukraine – Peoples Self-Defence” [NU-NS] have warned the Mayor that he faces criminal liability for infringing electoral legislation through this ban.
