Ukraine gives political asylum to Russian journalist
Former journalist from “Novaya gazeta” as well as newspapers in the Kemerovsk region (Russian Federation) and now Chief Editor of “Evening news” Alexander Kosvintsev has received refugee status in Ukraine.
Kosvintsev asked for political asylum at the beginning of February 2007. He stated that after a series of reports on alleged criminal links of the Governor of the Kemerovsk region Aman Tupeyev, he had suffered persecution from the Russian law enforcement bodies.
Alexander Kosvintsev will have the same rights as Ukrainian citizens, except electoral rights..
