Dear Editor,

I am extremely disturbed that your article at http://dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,3288661,00.html entitled The Barbies of Kiev Brace for Ukrainian Hitler Doll has not been removed. I am aware that complaints have been made by the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group and others over serious inaccuracies in this text. I quote the relevant part of the KHPG’s last letter to you:

The correct information is that this Hitler figurine was found by a Ukrainian journalist in one shop in Kyiv. He ascertained that the dolls are made in Taiwan. The price is prohibitively high, and they are most clearly not for the average Ukrainian child.  The article which, as far as I can see, triggered off all the reports including yours, was a reflective article by Kapustin in the 19 April  issue of “Dzerkalo Tyzhnya” (I give the reference here to the Russian version: http://zn.ua/1000/1550/62775/  The author is offered a doll, with one change of clothes and a head with a “kinder” face.  He ascertains that the doll was made in Taiwan. Mr Kapustin reflects on the grotesque nature of this find and is clearly appalled that anybody could want to buy such a doll.

Your article is therefore offensively inaccurate and misleading and I repeat the calls made by the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group on you to remove it and publicly apologize for posting misleading information. I also fully support their plan to approve the press regulatory authorities in Germany if this is not done.

We all have the right to truthful information and I ask you to respect this.

Yours sincerely,

The Daily Mail    [email protected] , [email protected], [email protected]

Dear Editor,

I am writing in connection with the material which the Daily Mail posted here http://dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=561519&in_page_id=1811

The material was removed following a third letter from the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group, in which clear notification was given of plans to approach the Press Complaints Commission if a public apology and acknowledgement that the article was seriously misleading were not made.

We repeat the call for a public apology and acknowledgement and endorse the plans to complain to all UK Regulatory authorities if this is not forthcoming.

Your article caused a great deal of damage and is continuing through sites which refer to you to seriously mislead the public.  Please take measures now to rectify the situation.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Editor,

I am writing in connection with the material which the Daily Telegraph posted here

http://telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2008/04/22/whitler122.xml

I are glad that material so seriously flawed in terms of accuracy, objectivity and other principles of good journalism was removed, however support the call from the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group for a public apology and acknowledgement that the report was misleading.

Given the serious damage and offence which the BBC contributed to, if the above is not received, I fully endorse the plans to approach the UK Press Complaints Commission and Broadcasting Standards Commission.

Yours sincerely,
