At a press conference on 14 May, the Ministry for the Family, Youth and Sport announced the beginning of a campaign against domestic violence.
The Ministrys Press Service reports that at the present time law enforcement agencies have 87 thousand people on their register for violence in the family. 77 thousand of them are men.
The Minister Yury Pavlenko stresses that “Violence against children has no geographic borders. It exists among all races, classes, religions and cultures. No country, rich or poor is immune from this ill”.
The campaign will involve drawing up and implementing specific measures to prevent and fight violence in the family, raise awareness of the problem and also include issues of violence as a violation of human rights and danger to society to the curriculum of all educational institutions for the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, doctors, social workers, teachers and others.
