The Supreme Court in Ingushetia has confirmed that Ingush opposition figure and owner of the opposition website Ingushetia.ru , Magomed Yevloev, who was killed while in a police car last year, had been detained unlawfully

The Supreme Court in Ingushetia has confirmed that Ingush opposition figure and owner of the opposition website Ingushetia.ru ,Magomed Yevloev was detained unlawfully. Yevloev was shot and killed after being detained at the Magas Airport in Ingusheita on 31 August last year, while in a police car.

Ingushetia’s Prosecutor claimed that the fatal shot had been fired by accident. His killing was reclassified as falling under the article “causing death through carelessness”.  His family and the opposition are not prepared to accept this version and demand that the crime be classified as murder.

The Supreme Court judgment upholds the ruling by the Nazran District Court in Ingusheita from November 2008 finding the detention unlawful. Please see the links below for information about the court cases over the closing of Yevloev’s site, as well as protest after his death.
