Andrei Zatoka’s daughter, Yekaterina has addressed these words of thanks to all those who took part in the campaign to free her father

As reported already, well-known environmentalist and civic activist Andrei Zatoka has been released from prison in Turkmenistan after international outrage over his arrest and almost immediate conviction on a trumped-up charge. He was permitted to leave Turkmenistan for his native Russia and on 7 November arrived in Moscow. Andrei Zatoka’s daughter, Yekaterina has addressed these words of thanks to all those who took part in the campaign to free her father.

From a daughter and grandson

There are many words in different languages with which you can thank a person, yet they would still not be enough to express our gratitude. To friends who from the outset took on the “Zatoka case” a most heartfelt thank you!

You did not abandon our family in need, you fought for our father’s freedom.

And you did not give up when the court passed sentence. You continued to phone and hold protests. You did not let others give up.

Our family has finally been united and for that a huge thank you!

I do not know many of you personally, yet people from far off parts of the world sent letters of support. And now letters of congratulation. And I congratulate you!  This is undoubtedly our victory!

Thank you so much!

Yekaterina Zatoka
