One of the members of the “Tabachnyk – Stop!” campaign who was handing out leaflets in front of the Taras Shevchenko National University where a meeting is taking place between Dmytro Tabachnyk, Minister of Education and the University’s Deans, has been detained by police.

According to Stepan Barna, Coordinator on Youth Issues of the civic movement “For Ukraine!”, police officers “unwarrantedly” detained the activist and took him to the Shevchenkivsky District Police Station.

Mr Barna said that there had been another incident also during which “young sporting-build people tried to grab the leaflets from a female activist by force”.

“We demand that the capital’s police immediately release the detained activist and protect other participants in the campaign from people of “Donetsk” appearance of whom at this moment there are a large number in the park near the university”, he stated.

At the same time, the activist himself, Anatoly Pikul, has written on Twitter that he is in the police station on Prorizna St. “I’m sitting in the police station. I was handing out information on the anti-Tabachnyk campaign… They’ve taken my fingerprints, taken my telephone away, but didn’t think of my communicator … I’m sitting and waiting.”

“The station on Prorizna, everything’s fine. Nobody, admittedly, wants to identify themselves”, he adds.
