The Kharkiv Regional Court of Appeal on 18 June 2010 found former police officer Timofeyev guilty of exceeding his official powers with the use of violence and degrading Oleksandr Skrypnyk.

On 16 September 2006 the then police officer beat Oleksandr outside the discotheque in the village of Bily Kolodyaz.

The Prosecutor refused on a number of occasions to initiate a criminal investigation, however thanks to Oleksandr’s mother’s persistence and the serious evidence against the police officer, the investigation was finally opened.

The court imposed the minimum sentence – 3 years imprisonment and ban on occupying certain positions, but added a two year probationary period. It also awarded Oleksandr 15,000 UAH in compensation.  Oleksandr was represented in court by KHPG lawyer Aihul Mukanova.
