Tymoshenko to remain in custody

Despite unequivocal statements of concern from the EU, European Parliament and numerous countries’ Foreign Ministries, and widespread protest, Judge Kireyev on Monday morning refused to change the detention order

The court on Monday morning rejected the application from the former Prime Minister’s defence to cancel the order remanding her in custody.

“Tymoshenko previously systemically infringed the Criminal Procedure Code, did not arrive at the court at the set time, hindered the process of establishing the truth and it was for this reason that the restraint measure of remand in custody was adopted”, Judge Kireyev stated.

“The court sees no grounds for changing the measure of restraint since the defence counsel have given no grounds in their application”.

The court hearing is continuing.
