Calls for USA and EU to ban entry to judges over Tymoshenko case
According to the party’s website, on Saturday two National Deputies from BYUT – Batkivshchyna [Yulia Tymoshenko’s party] and supporters passeds an appeal with over three thousand signatures to the US Embassy in Kyiv. It asks the US to ban entry into their country of Judge Rodion Kireyev from the Pechersky District Court in Kyiv, the presiding judge in the trial of Yulia Tymoshenko and in her remand in custody on 5 August, as well as Judge of the Kyiv Court of Appeal, Olha Yefimova, who on 12 August refused to consider the appeal lodged against the former Prime Minister’s detention.
One of the Deputies, Stepan Kurpil told journalists that they would be approaching EU countries and the Canadian embassy.
Yury Odarenko the other Deputy said that the opposition might be asking governments of other countries to impose sanctions against other high-ranking public officials over what he called political repression in Ukraine.
