Crimea: Three police officers convicted of torture
The Crimean Prosecutor’s Office informs that “a district court has convicted three officers of the Bakhchysarai Police Station. The court found the evidence gathered by the local Prosecutor’s office sufficient proof that the anti-drugs officers were guilty of exceeding their official duties and torture. The police officers applied unlawful methods against two victims, trying in that way to obtain confessions.
For the crimes under Article 365 § 2 and Article 127 § 2 of the Criminal Code, the defendants were sentenced to terms of imprisonment from 6 to 7 years. They were also stripped of their rank and prohibited from holding posts in the law enforcement bodies for three years”.
