Kharkiv civic organizations evicted from rented premises

On 2 September the following organizations were evicted from the premises they were renting in the centre of Kharkiv on Sumska St: the Union of Ukrainian Youth [SUM]; the Kharkiv Spadshchyna [Heritage] Society; the newspaper Ukrainsky Prostir; and the Hnat Khotkevych Foundation for National – Cultural Initiatives.  Police were there in force to implement the ruling from the Kharkiv Economic Court and prevented anyone, including journalists, from entering the buildings.

The court ruling allowed an application from the State Property and  Privatization Enterprise. The bailiffs threw the organizations out onto the street despite the fact that one of the members of Spadshchyna showed a ruling from the High Economic Court in Kyiv suspending the force of the Kharkiv Economic Court.  This was ignored despite the fact that the organizations evicted are lessees.
