No apparent hurry to try Gongadze murder suspect

The trial has once again been postponed, on less than convincing grounds, of former MIA General and Head of the Department of Intelligence and Foreign Surveillance, Oleksy Pukach who is facing charges over the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze

The trial has once again been postponed of former MIA General and Head of the Department of Intelligence and Foreign Surveillance, Oleksy Pukach.  The next hearing into charges linked with the killing of journalist Georgy Gongadze in September 2011 is now scheduled for 6 October.

The deferment this time was ostensibly due to Oleksy Podolsky who has victim status in the case having been in a road accident.  However Valentina Telychenko, the lawyer representing Georgy’s widow, Myroslava Gongadze, told Ukrainska Pravda that the accident in question had been to the mini-van public transport and that he only had a bruised knee, and was anyway happy for the hearing to go on without him.

In fact, however, there is another reason for thinking that the hearing was going to be postponed again. There is a timetable of hearings on the wall which shows that one of the members of the panel of judges was busy almost all day on civil cases.
