Odessa opposition TV channel alleges raid by enforcement officers

On 2 February Special Force Berkut and Sokol officers, as well as people from the Prosecutor’s Office and Department for Fighting Organized Crime appeared at the offices of the television channel “Nova Odesa” [New Odessa]. According to the Front for Change Press Service, the officials proceeded to search the entire premises.

The Front for Change calls the actions a storm and seizure of the channel which is part of the media holding of the head of the Odessa regional branch of the Front for Change, Volodymyr Nemyrovsky.

The statement says that there was no answer to questions regarding the grounds for the search.

The Public Liaison Department of the Odessa Regional MIA confirmed to Telekritika that the law enforcement officials were at the offices, however claimed that this was in no way connected with the activities of the channel but with another organization located at the same address.  The police did not give the name of the organization or the reason.
