Ukrainians don’t believe they’re equal before the law

According to the recent public opinion survey carried out by the Razumkov Centre and the Democratic Initiatives Foundation only 3 percent of Ukrainians believe that the law is the same for all and that all are equal before the law.

It is noteworthy that the same result was seen in May 2004

Respondents believe that those who have money have an advantage before the law (82%) and those who have power (82%). 

The results with respect to those with money is the same as in 2004 (82%) and somewhat higher than in 2007 (76%). 

With regard to the advantages for those in power the differences are wider: 77% in 2004; 76% in 2007 and 82% in 2012.

The importance of connections is rated lower: in 2004 46% saw this as important; in 2007 – 28%; and in 2012 – 33%.

The study was carried out between 31 May and 6 June, with 2, 000 respondents.
