The Chernihiv Regional Branch of the National Union of Journalists has issued a statement of concern over the intention of the Chernihiv District Council and Chernihiv District State Administration to appoint a new Editor of the municipal newspaper “Nash Krai”.  It is disturbed that this move is coming on the eve of the parliamentary elections.

The current Acting Editor of the newspaper is Lyubov Potapenko who has worked in journalism for more than 25 years and has the necessary managerial and journalist experience for the post of editor. It is important that her candidacy is supported by the staff of the newspaper.

The Chernihiv Regional Branch of the National Union of Journalists has asked the Chernihiv District Council and Administration to take into consideration the third founder of the newspaper, that being the editorial office staff. The Union also trusts that in appointing the new editor they will be governed by the professional qualities of the candidates.

It promises to follow the situation carefully.
