Second police officer detained in connection with brutal Vradiyivka rape

The Mykolaiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has reported that a second police officer has had his status changed from witness to suspect with regard to the gang rape of a young woman from Vradiyivka.  He has, apparently, been detained.

The police captain’s name was known from the outset as the 29-year-old who was savagely beaten during the attack named all three men.  Two – a police officer and taxi driver were remanded in custody on Monday night.  Apparent attempts to protect the third whose uncle is a district prosecutor, provoked an angry crowd to storm the Vradiyivka Police Station.  Police and Berkut riot police used weapons and tear gas to try to beat off the crowd.   The protests continued through Tuesday.

A video has been widely circulated on social networks where the young woman, with her head in a bandage, and face badly beaten clearly identifies the above-mentioned people and accuses them of pulling her into the car and raping her.
