Independent Regional Press Publishers of Ukraine, as part of the Y-Media Project, have released the latest results of research into how difficult it is to run a newspaper business in Ukraine’s regions. At the same time 39.2% of publishers and directors of regional newspapers said that running a publishing business was made more difficult by actions of the authorities. In May this figure was higher – 41%. According to the press release, publishers report of court cases against an owner (in Feodosiya) and the continuation of pressure by local authorities and other State institutions. They also recorded cases where press distributors had refused to distribute publications with material critical of the authorities. 26 publications were involved in the survey.
